Gorgon LNG Project 1/7/2010

Gorgon LNG is a proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Western Australia involving the development of the Greater Gorgon gas fields and a LNG plant on Barrow Island, which lies some 140 km west of Karratha off the Pilbara Coast of Western Australia.

With a four year construction timeframe, some 3,500 construction workers on-site and a budget of $43 Billion this makes Gorgon the single largest construction project to date.

Meales Concrete Pumping has been engaged by Chicago Bridge & Iron (CB&I) to place concrete for two large concrete LNG silos starting in late 2010 and continuing for approximately 2½ years. With the silos measuring 90 metres in diameter and a standing height of over 45m, three large 58m boom pumps will be used to construct the walls and a 36m placing boom mounted on the roof will complete the structures.

The addition of three Putzmeister 58m boom pumps to the Meales fleet strengthens our ability to offer our customers the largest range of concrete pumping equipment in Australia.

As part of the on going Rio Tinto Yarwun Stage 2 Alumina Refinery we are nearing the completion of the storage silo for Bechtel Constructions. This silo has been poured with the use of a 48m and 40m mobile boom pumps. For the last several pours the requirement has been for two 48m boom pumps due to the required reach.
The major civil component of this projects nears completion with approximately 80,000 cubic metres of concrete been placed to date.

Adelaide Desalination Plant 1/4/2010

Meales Concrete Pumping has recently been awarded one of the concrete pumping packages for the Adelaide Desalination Project. Working for Built Environs and Adelaide Aqua this requires the placement of concrete down a 40m vertical shaft into a large underground tunnel structure. Meales has deployed the use of a high pressure trailer pump and a 23m placing booms which is able to be placed in various locations within the tunnel.
